Walk and Talk / Land-Based Therapy

Not all therapy needs to happen in a room.

Walk and talk or land-based therapy offers a different way of working together, one that takes place outdoors, often while walking or sitting in a natural setting. For many people, being outside creates a sense of ease that makes it easier to open up, reflect, and engage in the process.

A Different Kind of Space

For some, sitting face to face in an office can feel intense or limiting. Being outside can soften that experience.

Movement, fresh air, and the natural environment often help:

  • Reduce pressure and self-consciousness

  • Support clearer thinking and reflection

  • Create a more relaxed, natural flow of conversation

This approach allows the work to unfold in a way that feels more spacious and less forced.

Who This Is For

Walk and talk therapy may be a good fit if:

  • You feel uncomfortable or guarded in traditional settings

  • You tend to overthink or feel stuck when sitting still

  • You feel more at ease being outdoors

  • You want to reconnect with your body and the natural world

  • You’re looking for a more relaxed, less structured experience

How It Works

Sessions take place outdoors in a local park or natural area around Asheville.

We may walk, sit, or pause as needed. The pace is flexible and based on your comfort.

The focus remains the same as traditional therapy: understanding patterns, working through challenges, and creating meaningful change.

Why It Can Be Effective

Being in a natural environment can help shift how you relate to what you’re going through.

It can:

  • Lower reactivity and stress

  • Support emotional regulation

  • Make it easier to access thoughts and feelings

  • Create a sense of perspective and space

Sometimes, simply being outside allows things to move that feel stuck indoors.
